The chairman of Bain & Company France, Olivier Marchal, has revealed he believes there is an atmosphere of ‘cautious optimism’ amongst French business leaders, as the prospect of an Emmanuel Macron win in the presidential election becomes more likely. Speaking on the Bloomberg Market: European Open programme, he said: “CEOs are definitely more relaxed after the result of the first round. We are now in a wait and see period in-between the first and second rounds, but there is cautious optimism amongst the business community even though the polls are looking more narrow.” He said: “We think he [Macron] will win the election.” However, even if he does, Marchal warned his honeymoon period would be “very short.” He said: “The business community will be very impatient to see the sort of structural reforms it badly needs.”
