News, elucidation and outlooks
on strategy consulting

A Press Association Freedom of Information Request has revealed that consultancies, including McKinsey are making substantial figures for drawing up plans that could lead to the closure or downgrading of hospitals in the UK. A Freedom of Information request was sent to clinical commissioning groups in 44 health regions asking them how much they’d spent so far on consultants working on so-called Sustainability and Transformation Plans (STPs). It found £360,000 had already been paid to McKinsey in the North London region for mental health modeling, while McKinsey was also paid £500,000 for "support for development of STP care models" in Northamptonshire and £195,000 for management support in Nottinghamshire. Dr Mark Porter, chairman of the British Medical Association's council, said: 'It is outrageous that so much vital resource is being handed to consultancy firms for their part in delivering STPs which, ultimately, may never come to fruition.
