Frank Mattern, the former head of McKinsey Germany (and currently the lead of its global recruitment operations), has announced he will quit the firm in September this year after saying it was ‘mission accomplished’ in terms of achieving all he had wanted to do with McKinsey. The 55-year old, who has built up 27 years’ service (including launching its information technology practice in 1997 and being managing partner of the German office from 2007-13), says he intends to be an independent consultant, as well as an investor in other companies. Mattern has decided to make use of a contractual provision allowing him to sell his McKinsey shares back to the company at the age of 55 after he leaves.
