The South Korean government has stepped in to save its troubled ship building, steel making and chemical industries by calling in Bain & Company, The Boston Consulting Group and McKinsey. All three sectors face have slumped in recent years as tough market conditions have hit the commodities sectors. The appointment of the three consultancies was revealed by Yonhap News, a local media agency. Bain will develop sustainability plans for the chemicals industry; BCG will help deal with over-capacity in the steel sector; while McKinsey has been charged to look into the shipping industry. According to a government official, “reports on each industrial sector are almost complete.”
