Former Oliver Wyman project manager Antonia Romeo is the UK’s newest Consul-General in New York. She is the first woman to ever hold the post.
She started her career as a project manager for Oliver Wyman in 1996, immediately after finishing an MA at Oxford in Philosophy, Politics and Economics.
Since 1999, Romeo served as the principal private secretary to the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice (2006-08), a director in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (2008-10), Executive Director for Governance Reform in the Cabinet Office (2010-11), the Director-General for Economic and Domestic Affairs in the Cabinet Office (2015), and the British envoy to U.S. Communications Service Providers (2015).
Romeo is committed to ensuring that U.S. firms continue to invest in the UK, in spite of the Brexit vote.
“Imagine you’re in a club with friends where you do your homework together, and the club would protect you against bullies,” Romeo told The New Yorker. “Well, now you’ve left that club, but you can still have the benefits of being friends with the club members.”
